Allotments have existed in Kenton for generations, and the current location, in the centre of the village
has existed for some 40+ years.
With the change in local authority responsibilities some 5 years ago, the future of the allotments appeared in some doubt.
The Kenton Allotment association was formed in 2002 with the following objectives :
To secure the site in the community for future generations.
To seek to secure a permanent water supply.
To create facilities for a wider range of users.
To date, the Association has secured a further Lease of the site, created a permanent, hard-surface, pathway to
facilitate easier access for all-abilities, and is currently in discussion with ARI
( Allotment Regeneration Initiative ) on water-capture projects, as mains water supply is precluded on practical and cost grounds.
All the allotments are in use, with a number of individuals in the community on a waiting list.
Due to the high demand ( 30+ ), for allotments in the community, negotiations are in the early stages with a local
landowner to acquire a site to meet this demand.
