THE BEGINNING

The Association was formed in 1993 when villagers expressed an interest in establishing a link with a
village in France. Our search for a twin eventually led us to St Lambert du Lattay, situated 23 kilometres
south-west of Angers, in the Loire Valley. St Lambert was already twinned with Linkebeek, a community on the
outskirts of Brussels, Belgium. We thus automatically became part of a tripling. This link had been established
in 1980. The official Charter Signing ceremony took place on 18 May 1996, when Kenton was host to 120 visitors
from the partner communities. Many families have now established strong links with their opposite numbers and
continue to build on their friendships.
OUR TWINS
St Lambert du Lattay is on the edge of the Loire Valley, just 10 kilometres away from the river, and is an active
and friendly community with a population of 1,500, clustered round the church and surrounded by vineyards. Some of
the famous chateaux of the area are within easy travelling distance from the village, which provides an ideal centre
for exploring the region. Within the village itself are the usual facilities associated with rural life.
The village is particularly proud of its Wine Museum and its Library and Cultural Centre.

Linkebeek is a small town situated south of Brussels, with a population of around 4,500. It is in a particularly
pleasant area with many delightful walks through woodland. There is easy access to the Belgian capital with many
historical sights to explore. The community is also a lively one, with numerous organisations keen to establish
links with similar groups in Kenton.
TWINNING EXCHANGES
An official visit is made to each village in turn every 2 years -1996 Kenton, 1998 St Lambert, 2000 Linkebeek - and in May 2008
we shall be the hosts again. Organisations are beginning to establish links. Kenton Primary School have already
exchanged visits with their French partners, and children from all 3 communities exchange messages through the Internet.
A group of teenagers from St Lambert came to Kenton in 1999 and Kenton teenagers visited St Lambert in 2005 In 2000 we
were hosts to the Linkebeek Camerata who gave a concert in the church.
